On the fringes of Felix Sturm's boxing match against István Szili, Oliver Pocher was attacked in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle.
A video posted online shows a man approaching the comedian and violently slapping him without warning.
The attacker apparently had the action filmed by a companion.
He then asked Pocher to come along several times and ran after him, but was held back by security staff.
At the time of the attack, Pocher was sitting in the front row next to soccer coach Christoph Daum and talking.
The attacker is apparently a Bochumer with the stage name Fat Comedy.
On his Instagram profile, which has since been deactivated, he accused Pocher of supporting people "who claim to have been raped, even though it's not true," according to reports from "Bild" and "Express".
He was apparently referring to the case of the rapper Samra, against whom the influencer Nika Irani had made allegations of rape.
Pocher addressed this in a podcast with his wife Amira.
Fat Comedy is said to be a close friend of Samra.
Former world champion Sturm had lost the elimination match against Szili on points.
With his failed comeback, the 43-year-old missed the chance of a sixth world title.
