The independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta announced Monday to suspend its online and print publications until the end of the military operation in Ukraine, at a time when the Russian authorities are stepping up their pressure against critical voices.

In a press release published on its website, the newspaper, whose editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021, said that it had taken this measure after receiving a second warning from the Russian telecoms policeman for breach of a controversial "foreign agents" law.
