With the participation of experts and representatives of universities, public and private scientific research bodies and centers, the Supreme Commission for Scientific Research organized today a workshop entitled “Towards a complete and sustainable coordination between Syrian scientific and research bodies” at the Al-Assad National Library in Damascus.
The participants in the workshop reviewed the indicators of scientific research in Syria and the current reality of scientific research bodies inside and outside the higher education system and the challenges they face, in addition to discussing the most prominent proposals and recommendations to achieve full and sustainable coordination among them through an integrated framework.
Dr. Fadia Deeb, Assistant Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, indicated in her speech that scientific research is the true and correct entry point for community development and represents the basis and base from which all projects for reconstruction in its various sectors are launched.
Dr. Majd Al-Jamali, Director General of the Supreme Commission for Scientific Research, confirmed that achieving communication and interdependence between scientific research bodies has become an urgent and necessary need, especially with the exceptional circumstances after the years of war and the continuation of the siege, especially that participatory ideas and research capabilities have become a trend for research institutions in most countries of the world until the proportion of The joint research between some of these institutions accounts for 50 percent of the total research output they conduct.
Dr. Yasser Khadra, Director of the Directorate of Scientific Research in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, spoke about the conditions, justifications and objectives of networking between research institutions, which are represented in activating cooperation and briefing on all that is new, building bridges of trust and enhancing the capabilities of institutions, reviewing the ministry’s vision in this field and measures to upgrade the scientific research system.
Dr. Firas Hennawi, Vice President of Damascus University for Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, reviewed the Damascus University plan in this field, stressing the need to strengthen cooperation between research agencies and link research implementation with contracts that give researchers financial advantages, grant publishers at the global level incentive rewards and encourage the dispatch of graduate students internally.
Dr. Khalil Ajami, President of the Syrian Virtual University, pointed out the urgent need for an integrated digital transformation strategy for academic and research institutions that includes lines of action at several legislative, technological and procedural levels, in addition to the need for internal and external digital networking between scientific institutions and Arab, regional and global education, research and development networks.
Dr. Muhammad Adel Jawad, Vice President of the University of Qalamoun for Scientific Affairs, spoke about the reality of scientific research in private universities and stressed the necessity of linking the outputs of scientific research with the needs of society and development plans, while Dr. International in the field of science and technologies of both sensing and space and maximizing the benefit of their applications in economic and social development.
The workshop also included presentations and interventions by a number of scientific research bodies, universities and research centers.
The workshop was attended by Dr. Diala Barakat, Minister of State for Southern Region Development.
