Unknown people have painted a zebra crossing on a state road in Niepars near Stralsund with weatherproof white paint.
As a police spokeswoman said, five stripes were probably applied to Landesstraße 21 on Sunday night.
If you look closely, you can see that the whole thing was done in an amateurish way.
There is a school nearby and concerned residents have long been asking the local authority for a pedestrian crossing, sources said.
However, the authority rejected such a measure with reference to the rather sporadic traffic in the direction of Stralsund.
The road maintenance department has now ordered that the waterproof white paint be painted over again on Monday with a black paint that is also weatherproof and resembles the asphalt.
The penalty for comparable offenses is a fine or imprisonment for up to five years.
The criminal police have started investigations on suspicion of dangerous intervention in road traffic and are hoping for information from witnesses.
