Prime Minister Mario Draghi signed the Dpcm on temporary protection and assistance for refugees from Ukraine due to the war.
The decree acknowledges the decision of the EU Council of 4 March.
The Dpcm sets the effective date of the temporary protection from 4 March 2022, with a duration of one year.

The beneficiaries are those displaced from Ukraine as of February 24, 2022. This category includes not only residents of Ukraine, but also citizens of third countries who benefited from international protection and family members.
The residence permit is
valid for one year
and can be extended by six months plus six, for a maximum of one year.
It allows
access to assistance provided by the NHS, to the labor market and to study
.
It is revoked, even before its expiry, when the EU Council decides the termination of temporary protection.
The
Police Headquarters
is the competent authority for issuing the residence permit for temporary protection.
The provision also provides for
specific welfare measures
and allows Ukrainian citizens already present in Italy to be
reunited
with their family members still present in Ukraine.
