From closed rooms to open space, spacious and inviting. A Tel Aviv apartment renovated in the days of the Corona

The apartment was designed for a couple and two children, on the fifth floor of an old Tel Aviv residential building, built in the 1970s, when the design was inside rooms and not in an open space as is customary today.

The kitchen is designed inside a room, the toilet outside, the bathroom and the service balconies are closed.

The redesign made a structural change in the apartment and was adapted to the contemporary needs of the family.

The design line chosen is contemporary, colorful and joyful.

The color scheme is based on a palette of pastel colors, and the carpentry is custom-made, tailored to the exact locations within the home spaces.

Customer requirement

The goal was to design a room for each child, a work area, and an open kitchen to the public space instead of the small, narrow kitchen that was originally there.

The introduction of color in the space was important, and it was done by combining decorative items in the various spaces and choosing colored tiles, especially in the bathrooms.

This is how the makeover was designed

In the renovation of old apartments there is a higher chance of surprises and unplanned events, so a lot of involvement in the execution phase and creativity in finding solutions is required.

The dining area and living room

The dining area and living room overlook a large window overlooking the city from the fifth floor, bringing lots of natural light into the space.

A hidden sliding door allows the creation of a partition between the public and private area, which creates a connection and separation according to the situation.

The living room maintains an organized and orderly appearance, and the paint stains are measured in it in a measured manner.

Using a dresser and wooden parquet warms the atmosphere and enhances the feeling of home.

Living room before renovation - dark, crowded and messy,

The kitchen

Opening the kitchen was the first decision made by the planners, thinking that the large and spacious space is much more suited to the modern way of life, as well as its ability to contribute to the increase of public space.

The design challenge was to produce a kitchen that was comfortable to work with - the old one was particularly narrow and two sides of 60 cm could not be placed opposite each other. The solution was to produce a narrower unit with a long, narrow and long stove unit It was possible to gain a relatively wide work surface and still not damage the space and the overall look.

The kitchen after the renovation offers two parallel ribs that increase the work area,

The bathroom

During the breaking of the walls, a pipe was discovered in the bathroom that could not be moved.

The solution was to flow with the constraint and turn it into a functional element.

At the place where the pipe passed, a dividing wall was built, which created a partition between the bathing area and the toilet.

Beyond this solution, it also contributed to the aesthetic appearance of the space.

The general bathroom floor is a terrazzo floor with colored aggregates in shades of blue and green on a gray background.

The shade chosen for the carpentry items is blue, in order to emphasize the color of the floor tiles.

The new bathroom connected the separate toilet and shower in the original apartment.

One of the requests of the occupants of the house was to produce two sinks for the children, so the utility cabinet under the sink is relatively large.

A pipe that could not be moved led to the creation of a decorative partition between the bathroom area and the toilet,

The children's rooms

The children's rooms were planned and designed according to the age and character of each child.

The use of color gave each room its unique character.

work area

One of the requests of the occupants of the house was to produce a work area.

The apartment was renovated in the days of the Corona, so the issue was necessary for them.

The corner has been designed in the area of the rooms under a large window, and it combines functional and adapted carpentry, in order to produce an optimal work experience.

The work area has been designed so that the area can be enclosed in glass, producing acoustic separation at the time of noise and activity.

Master room

The room designed as the largest is the master room, which combines a closet with plenty of storage solutions.

The tiles in the bathroom were a brave and challenging choice, especially for the contractor, as these are hexagonal tiles designed with precise retirement and the execution is done accordingly.

In order to further emphasize the choice of the special tile, it was decided to also mount it on the shower wall as a cladding.

Against the background of the colors, a red-colored veneer service cabinet is placed.

The bathroom is the star of the master suite,

The bath space is canopied and paved with the same tile for a more powerful look,
