Health, family, love and emotional life, quality of the environment in which one lives, safety for the future, work, order and respect for laws, friendship and commitment to the environment: these are the important aspects of life in the post-pandemic illustrated for the 2022 edition of Civicness, the biennial appointment with the Observatory on the civic sense of Italians of Comieco, in collaboration with the Ipsos research institute, in which the Paper Week was presented.
At the top of the
behaviors deemed unacceptable
- it was explained by the president of Ipsos, Nando Pagnoncelli at the Iulm - were found abandoning waste in a public place, damaging public goods, using a forged Green pass, leaving the house when is positive for Covid.
While in
the most acceptable step it is to have sex without being married.
However, the so-called amoral familism is growing again: for 26% of the interviewees the main responsibility of the person is towards his own family and children and not towards the community.
This edition of the Observatory gives us the image of a society which, after two years of health emergency, returns to turn to the certainties of the private sphere.
What worries about the legacy of Covid is a
generalized worsening of some indicators of civic sense
with a decline in confidence in the political class and in tolerance.
To balance the phenomenon, the Comieco-Ipsos Observatory, on the one hand, confirms the stable
sensitivity and attention to the environment
on the other hand, it shows a greater awareness
of the collective commitment
, which goes from 49% pre-pandemic to 62%.
It is also significant that violations of social distancing are at the top of the list of behaviors considered unacceptable but that, at the same time, compliance with the restrictions is accompanied by the belief that other people respect them only because they are obliged to do so and not because authentically persuaded of their usefulness and that they feed the propensity to violence, especially among young people.
"The research shows that separate waste collection is increasingly a consolidated and growing behavior, so much so that 67% of the population considers it a useful task for the community and 72%, not only does it every day, but also cleans the containers in paper and cardboard before the transfer ", underlined the general manager of Comieco, Carlo Montalbetti.
The reference points of the civic sense: The family is confirmed as the main educational context par excellence of the civic sense of the Italians.
But if Italians see an individual matrix in their civic sense, in their vision the territorial belonging that defines them at the value level is equally important.
As regards the influence of institutions in fueling civicness, the school remains firmly in the first place.
Compared to 2020, the re-evaluation of the figure of the President of the Republic emerges (for 53% a fundamental institution for stimulating the civic sense of Italians) and the simultaneous retreat of the media (radio, television) and the government.
