No spring in sight: Icy temperatures and lots of snow in Stuttgart

He's doing what he wants again: This year April starts cold and uncomfortable.
While it snowed heavily in the south-west on Sunday night, temperatures in the north-east fell to as low as minus 10 degrees.
At lower altitudes, apart from peaks like the Zugspitze, the snow cover in Baden-Württemberg was the thickest: "Niederstetten reported 27 centimeters on Sunday morning," said a meteorologist from the German Weather Service.
20 centimeters were measured at several stations in the Swabian Alb, and even in Munich there was 10 centimeters of snow.
Above all, the locally large amount of snow is unusual, said the DWD expert.
There was often less snow at the end of April or even at the beginning of May.
It was really cold at night further north.
The lowest temperature was measured in Wernigerode at minus 10.5 degrees.
In Eslohe in the Sauerland and around the Harz Mountains, the minus degrees were also in double digits - at minus 10 degrees.
Numerous accidents in Bavaria
Because of the heavy snowfall and ice, there were 13 accidents with seven injured in the vicinity of the Bavarian city of Fürstenfeldbruck on Saturday.
According to the police, the reason for the accidents was that the motorists had not adjusted their speed to the weather.
The most serious accident occurred on Autobahn 96 near Windach in the Landsberg am Lech district.
According to the Fürstenfeldbruck police, a 22-year-old driver overtook the vehicle in front of him despite the snowy road.
His car skidded, went off the road, hit a tree and rolled over.
The car stayed on its roof.
One of the occupants was taken to the hospital by rescue helicopter with a spinal injury.
The driver and passenger were slightly injured.
Onset of winter also in Italy
Winter also returned in some places in Italy over the weekend.
Snow fell on Vesuvius on Saturday, and the 1280 meter high volcano near Naples in the south of the country was then covered by a white layer.
It was also snowing in other parts of the country, such as the Cinque Terre in Liguria, which is popular with tourists, and on the holiday island of Sardinia.

During a sudden thunderstorm in Rome, lightning struck a tree in Villa Borghese Park.
The tree fell and hit two women;
one of them was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
