(ANSA) - BERLIN, APRIL 04 - The German government takes control of Gazprom Germany, at least temporarily.
Economy Minister Robert Habeck announced that the Federal Networks Agency will be appointed as the trustee of the Russian company's German branch.
Just Friday 1 April, the owner Gazprom had announced the end of its participation in the German subsidiary.
This is a temporary solution, clarified Habeck.
"The trust is to protect public safety and maintain security of supply," which is currently ensured, he said.
The step is "absolutely necessary".
