A rare incident in the preterm intensive care unit at Safra Children's Hospital at Sheba Medical Center, when 21-year-old Diana Almoura gave birth to a quartet.
"A miracle happened to us," say Diana and Nadav, 25.
The three sons and daughter were born in the 32nd week of pregnancy, weighing 1 kg to 1.55 kg.
Their condition is stable and they are being resuscitated and treated prematurely in "Safra".
Diana says she was surprised, and even frightened, when she discovered in the fourth month that she would be the mother of a quartet, but very quickly felt "blessed."
"I was apprehensive about moving from a young couple to a couple plus four," she says, "but when I heard their cries at birth and cried with them, I realized it's all worth it - it's an indescribable feeling."
Dr. Hava Rosen, a physician in the Department of Premature Intensive Care at Safra Pediatric Hospital, says: "Ten staff members in preterm intensive care assisted Diana in childbirth, and within an hour the entire quartet was stabilized in an incubator."
According to international data, the chance of a spontaneous birth of a quartet is 1 in about 700,000.
The last time a quartet was born in Sheba was in 2017.
