First the oil was scarce in the supermarkets, now it is incredibly expensive.

An Edeka branch is now going its own way.

Trendelburg - After all: There is vegetable oil again.

After the corresponding shelves in the supermarkets - as a result of the Ukraine war - were often emptied, oil is now easier to get hold of again.

Only the price takes away the desire for a frying campaign or a lavish salad dressing: both Aldi and Kaufland are asking 4.99 euros for a liter of sunflower oil, as various supermarket customers complain on social media.

Edeka branch in Hesse probably refuses to sell expensive oil

An Edeka branch is obviously not involved.

A Facebook user discovered a clear statement on the oil shelf.

The photo was taken at Edeka in Trendelburg (Hessen, Kassel district), she says.

At the request of tz.de, the operator confirmed that the note was attached a few days ago and sent a "proof photo" by e-mail, which corresponds to the one on Facebook.

Edeka branch in Hesse apparently puts up a sign with a clear statement

"Our statement on the subject of oil!!!!" reads the sign.

And further: “For the given occasion … we will not sell sunflower oil for 4.99 euros per liter!

We distance ourselves from these prices and will not offer you any sunflower oil.

There are Limits!!!!

As soon as we can buy goods again at reasonable prices, we will put them back on sale.

Until then, please switch to alternatives.”

There's also a tip on what to put in the pan instead of sunflower oil: "There are various drippings in the fridge for frying.

Thanks very much."

The Edeka branch operator confirmed to our editors the authenticity of the sign with this photo.

The Edeka customer, who claims to have discovered the sign, celebrates the campaign: "I call that a statement.

Respect for our EDEKA new purchase Müller in Trendelburg.”.

Some agree with her - there were 23 likes for the post in the first 21 hours.

In another Edeka store, cooking oil even ended up in a display case next to the expensive alcohol - which turned out to be a gag.
