Aldi charges five euros for a bottle of oil: the expert sees no end to the price increases

Sunflower oil is one of the products that are currently particularly difficult to obtain.

But now the oil is also becoming much more expensive than before.

Kassel – Some products have long been sold out in grocery stores such as Aldi*, Lidl*, Rewe* and Edeka*.

Flour, pasta and cooking oil are the classics when buying hamsters.

With a bit of luck you can still get hold of a pack or bottle of these foods.

And even if the shelf has a few more portions of the product, they are sold out again in no time.

In some grocery stores, such as Lidl, such products are now only rationed to avoid buying hamsters.

But in addition to the fact that flour, pasta and cooking oil are hardly available in grocery stores like Aldi, the prices of the products are also increasing enormously.

There has been an extreme increase in price for sunflower oil in particular.

As Focus Online reports, the price for the otherwise much cheaper oil will soon rise to the level of olive oil.

Ondosol brand sunflower oil is sometimes sold in Aldi branches.

The product now costs a whopping 4.99 euros, which according to Focus Online is a price increase of 550 percent.

In comparison, the own-brand oil can be mentioned, which costs 1.79 euros but is sold out.

Oil at Aldi: Discounter calls for extremely high prices for sunflower oil

Ondosol's sunflower oil in Aldi is not the only example of extremely high cooking oil prices.

Rewe also sells 750 milliliters of sunflower oil at exorbitant prices.

Here the seller is asking 3.79 euros, which means a liter price of 5.05.

Whether these prices will soon rise for all oil products and even become more expensive remains unclear for the time being.

Carsten Kortum is a retail expert and head of the consumer goods retail course at the DHBW Heilbronn.

He sees no end to the price increases for the time being.

"

It will even be the case that more waves will come.

[...] This means that the supply gap for these important basic foods can last until 2023," says the trade expert according to SWR.

For him, however, this development is more than understandable.

He sees that all consumers have benefited from globalization in recent decades.

"Even with food in the form of low cost."

Aldi, Lidl and Co.: Rise in the price of cooking oil – when will it stop?

The cause of the rising prices is a combination of supply chain difficulties caused by Corona, the Ukraine conflict * and rising energy prices.

Since Ukraine produces a very large part of the grain, this can soon become scarce.

Russia also produces an important ingredient needed to make fertilizer, namely ammonium nitrate.

If this falls away, the rest of the agricultural industry will also suffer, reports Focus Online in a video.

This in turn can affect product prices.

In contrast to Aldi, an Edeka market in northern Hesse no longer plays with the overpriced prices for cooking oil* and puts up a sign with a clear statement.

"We distance ourselves from these prices and will not offer you sunflower oil," the statement said.
