(ANSA) - REGGIO CALABRIA, APRIL 21 - The Finance Police of Reggio Calabria, with the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office, carried out disqualification measures against, among others, the rector of the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria, Santo Marcello Zimbone (ten months), and of the pro rector vicar Pasquale Catanoso (12 months) and of other 6 people including teachers and employees of the university.
The provision was ordered by the investigating judge at the request of the public prosecutor headed by Giovanni Bombardieri.
The investigations arise from a complaint presented by a candidate who was not successful when completing the evaluation procedure for a position as a researcher.
The operation called "Magnifica" sees four other ordinary professors and two employees of the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria under investigation and is the result of an investigation conducted by the Reggio Calabria Economic and Financial Police Unit which allowed to hypothesize alleged illegal conduct committed over a period of time from 2014 to 2020.
The investigators, in particular, hypothesize the existence of an association dedicated to the commission of crimes against the public administration and against the public faith in the direction and management of the University of Mediterranean Studies of Reggio Calabria and its compartmental structures.
In the face of the pro rector, who previously held the office of rector, the investigating judge also ordered the
execution of a preventive sequestration worth approximately 4 thousand euros.
Home and personal searches are also underway against 23 suspects;
of IT / telematic systems in use by the University and request for delivery of documentation deemed essential for evidential purposes.
