ZDF's longtime director of film, Hans Janke, has died.

The broadcaster announced this in a statement.

Accordingly, Janke died on April 19, 2022 at the age of 77 in Wiesbaden.

»Hans Janke was a guarantee for the highest film quality on ZDF.

He understood how to make challenging topics attractive to a broad audience," says ZDF director Norbert Himmler in a statement: "ZDF mourns the loss of a colleague who, with his feeling for people and feelings, moves a lot in the German media landscape Has."

Born in Westphalia, Janke initially worked as a media critic and headed the Adolf Grimme Institute from 1983.

From 1989 to 2009, Janke worked for ZDF, where he became head of the ZDF main editorial office for TV films and later also deputy program director for the station.

During his many years of work, Janke invented the »TV film of the week« format, which since then has been an integral part of the ZDF program every Monday at 8.15 p.m.

Janke also developed crime series such as »Bella Block«, the program »Aktenzeichen XY...unsolved« and cinema co-productions, including the Walser film »Ein fleendedes Pferd«.
