The corona incidence rose by almost 120 points from Monday to Tuesday.

What does that mean?

Are the family gatherings at Easter now breaking through?

The nationwide seven-day incidence has increased significantly compared to the previous day - however, this does not necessarily indicate an aggravated corona infection situation.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the

value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week on Tuesday morning as 909.1

.

The previous day the value was 790.8.

A week ago, the nationwide incidence was 669.9 (previous month: 1,758.4).

Fewer corona infections reported: Easter holidays distort the incidence

The strong increase is probably a result of the past Easter days, among other things.

"There will always be significant fluctuations around public holidays due to the completely changed reporting behavior (...)," says the Bremen epidemiologist Hajo Zeeb.

Since fewer infections are transmitted to the RKI on public holidays, the number of cases and incidence initially decrease.

The later late registrations and the omission of the weak reporting days from the 7-day observation then lead to an increase in the values.

The fluctuations do not necessarily indicate

a

change in the course of infection .

"As always, it is important to take a somewhat long-term view, real trends can only be seen over several days with a continuous increase," says Zeeb from the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology.

The number of new corona infections reported to the RKI by the health authorities within one day was 136,798 on Tuesday morning.

A week ago, with 22,483 registered infections, it was significantly fewer.

This is also likely to be a consequence of the past Easter days, when health authorities only reported incomplete to the RKI.

Survey on the course of corona disease

Fewer corona tests, higher number of unreported cases, delays in reporting: Infection processes are becoming increasingly opaque

The interpretation of the infection process should not become easier in the future.

You are dealing with an increasingly uncertain database, says epidemiologist Zeeb.

"Soon there will be no more tests in schools, and the number of unreported cases will remain substantial."

When it comes to the RKI values, it should always be taken into account that individual states do not report data every day of the week, for example Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony, Brandenburg and Saxony not or not completely at weekends, which in turn leads to late reports on the following days.

Experts have also been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - due to overworked health authorities and because

not all infected people have a PCR test done

.

Only these count in the statistics.

According to the new information, 304 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.

A week ago there were seven deaths.

The RKI has counted 24,337,394 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected.

The RKI gave the number of recovered people on Tuesday as 21,665,200.

The number of people who died from or involved a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 134,489.

Have you also been infected with Corona?

Then it could be important if you eat a lot of bread.

A new study shows which diet has a positive influence on the course of Covid-19.
