Weather change on May 1st?
Expert gives hope

After a changeable weekend, the weather will be spring-like again on May 1st: fewer showers and many hours of sunshine are to be expected.
But that also harbors dangers.
Kassel – After the weather in mid-April offered a lot of dryness and sunshine, there was rain at the weekend (April 24) – but the east and north of Germany were largely spared, reports qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung from wetter.net.
However, an extensive downpour would have been necessary: The risk of forest fires in Germany increased enormously in the penultimate week of April.
Even if the last week of April is rather cool and rainy, according to Dominik Jung, the expected onset of winter will not happen.
Instead, spring weather will return from Wednesday.
At the beginning of May it becomes increasingly friendly, especially the first weekend in May will be mostly sunny and warm with up to 22 degrees.
Day | weather forecast |
---|---|
Tuesday April 26th | Changeable, 11 to 17 degrees, partly rain |
Wednesday April 27th | Lots of sunshine and dry, 13 to 19 degrees |
Thursday April 28th | Lots of sunshine and warm, 15 to 22 degrees |
Friday April 29th | Sometimes sun, sometimes clouds, 14 to 21 degrees |
Saturday April 30th | a bit cloudy in the north and south, 15 to 22 degrees |
Sunday May 1st | lots of sunshine and warm, 14 to 20 degrees, short thunderstorms possible in the south and south-west |

Even if spring is about to return, rain would be urgently needed, says Dominik Jung.
Especially in the north and east as well as in the middle of Germany it is very dry.
That is why the danger of meadow fires is also increasing: The grassland fire index of the German Weather Service (DWD) shows a warning level between 3 and 4 for the north.
In the south, the danger of meadow fires is low, because there are frequent showers.
Spring weather returns from May: the first week of May also remains dry
According to Dominik Jung, it should remain largely dry until May 10th.
By then, the cold air masses will have mostly disappeared from Germany and, according to the current weather forecast, there will be no onset of winter at the beginning of May either.
Weather experts are already giving an insight into what the weather will be like in summer.
But this is how it goes on in the first week of May with the spring weather:
Day | weather forecast |
---|---|
Monday, May 2nd | Sometimes sun, sometimes clouds, 14 to 20 degrees |
Tuesday 03 May | A few showers, 14 to 19 degrees |
Wednesday, May 4th | Lots of sunshine, little rain, 14 to 20 degrees |
The weather can still be changeable in early May.
It can rain a little from time to time, especially in the center of the country and in the south.
In general, not much rain is to be expected in the whole of Europe, according to Dominik Jung.
