After eating large amounts of chocolate, a 37-year-old woman came to the emergency medical center with symptoms unique to the salmonella bacterium • She was treated with antibiotics and fluids and released home

Another suspicion of salmonella, this time in Jerusalem.

A 37-year-old woman arrived at an emergency pre-medical center in Talpiot in Jerusalem with salmonella symptoms, she claimed, after eating large amounts of chocolate yesterday morning.

The symptoms started last night and got worse this morning and she got to the hotline.

Noa Horitz, a registered nurse and director of the Jerusalem District of Emergency Medicine who treated the woman, said that "she suffered from all the unique symptoms of the salmonella bacterium including fever, headaches, severe abdominal pain and diarrhea. She was treated with antibiotics and fluids and was released home in the afternoon."

Earlier this morning, a 27-year-old man went to the emergency medical center in Ichilov-Bnei Brak on suspicion of suffering from salmonella, after he said he ate chocolate products suspected of being infected with the bacterium.

The man, who has been suffering from fever, headaches, abdominal pain and vomiting for the past four days, received treatment at the hotline, and was released to his home at noon.

The focus doctor, Dr. Alawi Tarwat, notes that all clinical symptoms raise suspicion of salmonella.

"The disease can be due to a number of reasons and there is no way to directly link the case to the recall of chocolate products. The notice has not yet been given due to the public interest," noted Dr. David Zlotnik, the medical director of Emergency Medicine.

A 4-year-old patient is also hospitalized in the pediatric emergency department at Assuta Public Hospital in Ashdod on suspicion of contracting salmonella as a result of eating one of Strauss' chocolate products that was removed from the shelves.

In total, so far, the Ministry of Health is aware of four suspected cases of salmonella.
