1348 outbreaks of bird flu have been detected in France in six months, leading to the slaughter of at least 15 million poultry. In

On a site near a motorway in Vendée, two diggers are busy covering hundreds of dead poultry with lime.

They become the symbol of an unprecedented situation in France, faced with a very virulent epidemic and forced to take exceptional measures.

Since the first outbreak discovered on November 26, 1,348 have been detected across the country.

At least 15 million poultry have been slaughtered in the space of five months.
