Parents adopted baby - and after 17 years discovered the mistake they made (@mrsmedeiros)
Ticket user mrsmedeiros regularly shares disturbing stories she encounters in Reddit, with one of her latest dealing with a white couple who have adopted an Asian baby.
The adoptive parents promised his biological parents that they would give their son a warm home, "We promised them that the child would get lots of love and so it was, we fell in love with him from the first moment," the parents said.
After eight months, the parents began to feel guilty that the child would not grow up knowing his cultural roots and decided to take action on the issue.
They befriended people from the Chinese community near their place of residence, including a couple of neighbors who served as his adoptive uncles.
They enrolled him in Mandarin classes, the official language in China, and even took him on many family trips to China.
The surprising discovery came only when his parents were asked to help him fill out an application for admission to college when he turned 17. Only then did his father discover the bitter mistake.
He recounted: "I dug into the office looking for the necessary paperwork, came across his adoption documents and only then did I see it. Something so obvious, so painful, something my wife and I, in the stupidity of our youth, did not notice ...".
The adoptive parents discovered 17 years too late that the family names of their son's biological parents are "Park" and "Kim" - meaning that the child is actually Korean and not Chinese.
