Clogged drain in the kitchen: Many things are not allowed to go in there

Every now and then the drain in the kitchen gets clogged.
But that can easily be prevented.
Dortmund – If the wrong things keep getting down the drain, at some point the time has come: the drain is blocked.
It is therefore better to avoid some typical mistakes, as RUHR24* knows.

Clogged drain in the kitchen: why oils should not be dumped down the sink
Most people should be aware that chemicals such as cleaning agents and medicines do not belong down the drain.
Because these items can damage both the drainage system and the groundwater.
But according to
news.at
, other things should definitely not end up there either.
For example oils, because these have the property of not being water-soluble (more lifehacks at RUHR24*).
Over time, they deposit on the pipe walls, solidify, and in turn form other "strays" that cling to the pipes.
In addition, old oil starts to stink over time and you can smell this smell throughout the kitchen.
Bad smells can be eliminated*, but olives, sun-dried tomatoes, sardines and canned tuna should not be thrown down the sink.
Prevent clogged drains: That's why flour and eggs don't belong in it
Anyone who likes to bake has probably already mixed flour with water.
This mixture makes an excellent adhesive.
For the drain, however, this is a catastrophic connection.
If flour does end up in the sink while baking, it can be wiped up with a damp kitchen towel and thrown into the household waste.
Egg shells should also not end up in the drain when baking, because that can also be problematic.
Because when they come into contact with water, they get stuck and, in the worst case, can harden.
The remains of the eggs can therefore instead be disposed of in the residual waste or on the compost.
Drain blocked: That's why coffee should never be in the sink
Coffee should also be disposed of in the garbage can.
Because the fact that coffee powder is harmless in the drain and even removes deposits in pipes is just a fairy tale.
It happens in many households: the drain gets clogged.
That's why some things shouldn't end up down the drain in the first place.

Because coffee has a high fat content, which is why it is deposited in the drainpipe just like other fats.
Noodles and rice should also not get into the pipes, as they often get stuck there.
Rice swells there even further.
Clogged drain caused by paint and varnish: Where the paint residues are disposed of
But not only the food mentioned should not end up in the drain.
According to utopia.de
, paint and varnish do
not belong in drains either.
Wall paints can damage water bodies, pollute drinking water and at the same time settle in the drain.
Dried paint can be disposed of in the general waste instead.
Empty paint buckets, on the other hand, belong in the "yellow sack" unless a large amount of dried paint is stuck in it: then the whole bucket belongs in the residual waste.
But be careful when throwing away the garbage, because a mistake can lead to high fines*.
Drain blocked by glue: This is an easy way to avoid the error
Even the small stickers on the fruit from the supermarket are suboptimal in the drain, as reported
by genialetricks.de
.
While avoiding this is often difficult when doing laundry, it should be avoided.
These stickers are waterproof and cling to the pipe walls.
A few of these shouldn't be a problem for the drain.
In connection with other deposits, however, they can cause the camel to overflow.
