Inflation: CSU politician calls for suspension of broadcasting fees

2022-05-01T14:24:59.081Z

Inflation affects many people. The CSU politician Stefan Müller is therefore calling for a temporary reduction in broadcasting fees to zero.

Because of rising inflation, the parliamentary secretary of the CSU in the Bundestag, Stefan Müller, has called for a temporary exemption from the broadcasting fee.

»Many Germans have problems financing their everyday expenses.

The federal and state governments should therefore suspend the broadcasting fee for three months to relieve people," he told the news portal t-online on Sunday.

“Low-income people would benefit disproportionately from a suspension of the broadcasting fee, since all households have to pay the same amount,” argued Müller.

In addition, the federal and state governments should use the period to talk about a basic staggering of the contribution.

"It's socially unfair that a high-earning couple has to pay the same amount as a single parent," emphasized Müller.

A streamlining of public service broadcasting is “indispensable anyway”.

So far, people with low incomes can be permanently exempted from paying the license fee.
