PARIS - Rome and Paris more united than ever.

The mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, is also expected in Paris to celebrate together with the mayor of the French capital, Anne Hidalgo, the historic twinning between two of the most beautiful and symbolic capitals of the European Union.

A visit scheduled this summer, as part of the first edition of the 'Dolcevita-sur-Seine' event to be held on the banks of the Seine from 9 to 14 July, simultaneously with a 'twin' exhibition in Rome, Nouvelle Vague sul Tevere ' , organized on the Tiber Island, as part of the L'Isola del Cinema Festival.

The official announcement was made this afternoon by the councilor responsible for Europe and the municipality of Paris, Arnaud Ngatcha on the occasion of the celebrations organized on the Parvis de Hotel de Ville in view of May 9, Europe Day.

"We are very happy, within the framework of the French presidency of the EU and the arrival of a new mayor in Rome, to relaunch the twinning between Rome and Paris. I went to see Gualtieri in Rome. We were received in an incredible way. When Gualtieri comes in Paris we will unveil the whole program of the twinning, which includes many sectors: from culture, to heritage, but also collaboration between the Roman and Parisian police forces, the question of tourism, mobility or even the different activities that link our two cities. A complete twinning,

that will relaunch this unique bond "between Rome and Paris. A few days before the celebrations for Europe Day, Monday 9 May, the 'Dolcevita-sur-Seine' event was awarded the 'Paris-Europe' Label this afternoon, awarded annually by the Parisian municipality to projects that contribute to European unity. Rome and Paris are united by an exclusive twinning sanctioned in 1956 with the motto 'Only Rome is worthy of Paris. Only Paris is worthy of Rome'.

Open to all, free and popular, the Parisian exhibition that will be organized in front of the Ile-Saint-Louis provides a "joint and connected" program with 'Nouvelle-Vague on the Tiber', a 'twin' event scheduled simultaneously with the Tiber island .

Screenings, outdoor films, a photo exhibition,

"Our idea is to combine conviviality and high quality programming, to create a party space to let this Roman and Parisian imaginary that speaks to everyone," says Cristina Piovani, who together with other 'Roman from Paris' - including the journalist Francesca Pierantozzi and the filmmaker Claire Corbetta-Doll - created the event.

"The urban and human correspondence between our two capitals, the incessant coming and going of people, ideas and projects, does not belong only to the Romans and the Parisians - observes Piovani - but is at the very heart of European identity".

Gathered in the 'Palatine' Association (the name recalls the mythical Palatine night train that for years connected the two cities) the promoters promise other surprises between the Seine and the blond Tiber,

with forays also into the world of football and gastronomy.

In addition to Gualtieri's visit, the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, will also reciprocate the exchange by going on an official visit to Rome.
