A butcher was found lifeless in a smokehouse in the Upper Palatinate and died shortly thereafter.
The man's body has now been examined.
According to the police on Monday, the autopsy revealed no evidence of external influence.
Investigators assume it was an accident.
The smoker was probably no longer switched on, but it was still hot and the door was closed when the 61-year-old was found, it said.
The incident happened in a butcher's shop in Neustadt an der Waldnaab.
The butcher was found lifeless by a colleague in a walk-in smoker last Wednesday.
Subsequent rescue attempts were unsuccessful.
According to the police, the man was taken to a hospital under ongoing resuscitation, where he died.
