Edeka customers currently have to reckon with gaps on the shelves again.

In many places, private label mineral water is becoming scarce.

The reason for this is a change in procurement.

Munich – The retail chain Edeka recently reorganized its own brand procurement in a major hit and run campaign – away from the regular supplier Altmühltaler (Schäff Group) to a larger group of bottlers, which include Hansa-Heemann, Hochwald-Sprudel and Riha- should count Weser gold.

But obviously not every new partner can deliver directly.

According to Edeka, the bottlenecks should be cleared by the end of May.

The change came about because no agreement could be reached with Altmühltaler on future price conditions.

According to Edeka, a delivery was offered at a purchase price that was higher than the retail price of the competition.

The price for the 1.5 liter PET bottle, which had already been increased from 19 to 25 cents in March, could not have been maintained with this.

"This also shows that cooperation with us was no longer desired," said an Edeka spokesman.

Price war in retail: retailers defend themselves against criticism

In the face of massive criticism in the region, Edeka emphasizes that the contract was terminated by Altmühltaler and that the claim that the retailer did not want to support rising energy prices is wrong, writes the industry journal

.

"Our supply contract provided for one-to-one adjustments to energy costs, so that the increase in energy costs would have been passed directly to us," Edeka defends against the criticism.

Stiftung Warentest tests how good the mineral water of the different brands is.

The results are amazing.
