(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 11 - Russia has blocked about 300 merchant ships in the Black Sea which cannot therefore export wheat and other food products from Ukraine.
This was announced today by the US State Department on Twitter, reports Ukrinform.
"Ukraine exported up to 5 million tons of wheat per month" now "shipments have almost stopped due to the Kremlin blocking Ukrainian ports and nearly 300 merchant ships in the Black Sea," the statement read.
The US State Department stressed that these actions "threaten to put millions of people at risk of suffering and malnutrition".
