The trial of the Chechen Rassoul Bissoultanov, allegedly responsible for the death of
Niccolò Ciatti
, killed in the summer of 2017 at the age of 22 in a nightclub in Lloret de Mar , started today at the Provincial Court of Girona (Spain).
The prosecutor asks for 24 years in prison for Bissoultanov.
In addition, the situation of an alleged accomplice will also be analyzed, accused by the victim's family and by the trade association representing Catalan nightclubs (Fecasarm) of having participated in the murder, explains the Catalan news agency Acn.
Luigi Ciatti saw Rassoul Bissoultanov for the first time today.
"I told him to his face that he is a murderer, and I would always tell him again, I hope in a sentence of the maximum penalty", said Ciatti speaking with ANSA.
The meeting was outside the Spanish city courthouse, where the trial began today.
"They came in good guys version", said Ciatti, "but they are impressive actors".
According to various media outlets, the police intervened to avoid physical contact between the accused and Niccolò's family.
The father of the 22-year-old Florentine who died in 2017 during a beating in the Sant Trop nightclub, says he expects the Spanish court to sentence the two "to the maximum possible sentence".
"The idea that my son was a brawler must not pass by - he added - we are talking about a little boy who was on vacation and just wanted to have fun".
After being arrested in Germany and extradited to Italy, Bissoultanov - following a release order - went to Girona, where at the beginning of 2022 he surrendered himself to the local authorities with the objective, not yet achieved, that the process against him was held only in Spain.
However, the judges of the Court of Assizes of Rome have ordered that a parallel trial also be held in Italy.
The defense of Rassoul Bissoultanov asks that the suspect be convicted in Spain for manslaughter and not for willful murder, as claimed by the prosecutor.
The defense's thesis is that the kick in the face that proved fatal to Ciatti was not given to him by the accused with the intention of killing him.
For this, the maximum sentence that he could inflict should not exceed 4 years in prison.
A version of the facts that clashes with that proposed by the prosecution, according to which, instead, Bissoultanov killed the 22-year-old Florentine intentionally.
The prosecutor is asking for a sentence of 24 years in prison and nine years of probation.
