INTERVIEW – The president of Arcom draws a first positive assessment of the media treatment of the presidential election.


Before the end of the summer, Arcom will publish its report on the progress of the campaign.

Its president, Roch-Olivier Maistre, will initiate, in the wake of the legislative elections, a consultation in order to propose recommendations on possible changes to the rules in force.

Roch-Olivier MAISTRE.- Guaranteeing respect for the rules of pluralism in order to allow all currents of thought and opinion to express themselves in the audiovisual media is one of the historical and essential missions of Arcom.

For the presidential election, the law obliges us to ensure that the candidates have fair and then equal access to the audiovisual media.

Today, the first observation is that the media played an indispensable role in this election, in particular due to the low number of meetings, prevented by the pandemic.

Thanks to the daily dialogue that Arcom maintained with the newsrooms, there was little intervention by the regulator
