US actor Kevin Spacey has been charged with sexually assaulting three men in the UK.

Now the 62-year-old has said he will appear in court in person.

"I will voluntarily appear in the UK as soon as possible and defend myself against these allegations," Spacey told the US news program "Good Morning America". "I am confident that my innocence will be proven."

The Oscar winner is accused of four sexual assaults in the UK.

In one case, investigators say Spacey coerced a person into "penetrative sexual activity" without their consent.

The incidents are said to have happened between March 2005 and August 2008 in London and in April 2013 in the west of England.

Numerous allegations against Spacey

Four and a half years ago, it was revealed that at least 20 men had accused Spacey of "inappropriate behavior" at London's Old Vic Theatre.

Spacey was the theater's artistic director from 2004 to 2015.

Actor Anthony Rapp first said he was bullied by Spacey when he was a minor in the 1980s.

The legal battle continues.

In another case, investigations into the 2019 Oscar winner were dropped and a civil lawsuit was withdrawn.

Spacey has denied allegations in the past.

Spacey's career has come to a standstill since the allegations became known in autumn 2017.

Most recently, he had enormous success with the Netflix series »House of Cards«.

In it, Spacey played the leading role of the unscrupulous US politician Frank Underwood for five seasons.

Spacey was also accused of sexual harassment by crew members on the series, which he also served as an executive producer.

"House of Cards" was shot to the end without him.

In November 2021, court documents showed that Spacey had to pay the Netflix series' production company around $31 million for breach of contract.

The previous summer he had started filming a new film.
