As early as 2019, an EU car regulation was passed, which made assistance systems in vehicles mandatory.
It will come into force next month.
Brussels - From July 6th, an EU car regulation will come into force that contains a variety of regulations relating to car safety.
From July 6th, all new vehicle types must have new assistance systems such as speed assistant, emergency brake assistant, lane departure warning or reversing assistant.
In order to receive a vehicle permit, new vehicles must meet the same requirements.
This regulation aims to ensure more safety and fewer deaths.
EU car regulation: speed should be regulated digitally
The intelligent speed assistant (ISA: Intelligent Speed Assistance) is intended to prevent drivers from exceeding the speed limit in the future.
It has digital road maps and uses traffic sign recognition to determine whether speed limits are being observed.
If the limit is exceeded, the system draws attention to this with acoustic and visual warnings.
Another component of the regulation for more car safety is the emergency brake assistant.
From 2022, an emergency brake assistant will be mandatory in new vehicle types.
It should independently recognize dangerous situations and brake the vehicle to prevent collisions.
EU car regulation: Lane departure warning system becomes mandatory
The Lane Keeping Assist (LKA: Lane Keeping Assist) is already known to many.
From July 2022, however, the emergency lane keeping assistant (ELK: Emergency Lane Keeping) will become standard in vehicles.
It intervenes even more when the vehicle threatens to veer off the road or into oncoming traffic.
Ultimately, a reversing assistant is to be implemented.
When reversing, the assistant should warn of pedestrians or other obstacles.
