Wales beat Ukraine 1-0 in Cardiff in the playoff final, securing the thirteenth and last place for the European national teams at the World Cup in Qatar and making the Ukrainians' dream of qualification vanish.

The only participation in the final phase of the tournament dates back to 1958 for the Dragons, who will be included in group B with England, Iran and the United States.

The Wales players celebrated on the pitch the feat of replaying in the final phase of the World Cup after 64 years, in total contrast to the tears and despair of the Ukrainian internationals, albeit supported by the applause of many of their fans who came to Cardiff in pursuit of a dream.

Among the most desperate, in the pouring rain, Andriy Yarmolenko, the West Ham striker who deflected a free kick from Bale into his own goal, in the 34th minute of the first half, sentenced his team.

Bale himself, captain of Wales, reached his opponents under the Ukrainian cheering curve, applauding them and trying to comfort them.
