Neighboring Austria wants to save energy and is therefore reducing the water temperature in Vienna's swimming pool.

In Germany, too, the first outdoor pools have announced that they will lower the temperatures.

Munich - That could be a cold jump into the water.

Austria's swimming pools are already showing what bathers could expect in this country at the start of the outdoor pool season.

Rising energy costs are forcing swimming pool operators to save.

The Viennese show how it's done.

They lower the water temperature by two degrees.

Martin Kotinsky, spokesman for the Vienna baths, now confirms this

to

oe24.at.

"We switch off the water heater when the water temperature in the outdoor pool is 24 degrees," says Martin Kotinsky.

Previously, it was heated up to 26 degrees and then switched off.

As the reason for this measure, the spokesman states that one is trying to save energy in view of the high electricity costs.

According to Kotinsky, the rising cost of electricity will result in additional expenditure of several million euros.

However, he cannot say how much the measure can save in the future.

Swimming pools: Savings of up to 15,000 euros a year

The city of Regensburg is more specific.

Because the city has already adjusted to the increased costs for energy.

The municipality wants to save 10,000 to 15,000 euros by lowering the temperature in Regensburg's Westbad, an indoor and outdoor pool.

This is reported

by Sat1 Bayern TV

.

The temperature in the swimming pool has been reduced from 27 to 26 degrees.

In the wave pool from 30 to 28 degrees.

The room temperature was also reduced by half a degree.

With the implementation of these measures, the people of Regensburg also want to avoid price increases for their swimming guests.

Caution: This could be a jump in at the deep end.

An idea that should also give the operators of around 6,000 pools in Germany food for thought.

Because of course the Ukraine war is also showing its effects in this country.

Consumers feel this in their wallets every day.

Increased prices for groceries, when filling up at the pump or when looking at the bill for energy costs.

A lot of people are probably asking themselves: And now the entrance fees for swimming pools?

High energy costs for swimming pools: a lot of money for a lot of warm water

It is clear that heating up the pool water - with gas or oil - is expensive for the operator.

In times of exploding gas and oil prices, this becomes a problem for operators - and also for swimmers.

The German Society for Bathing (DGfdB) has therefore now published a guide with recommendations for action for the baths.

With the tip: Turn down the heating.

This is the best and easiest way to save energy.

Bathing water that is just two degrees cooler could bring energy savings of up to 25 percent for indoor pools, explains Ann-Christin von Kieter from the DGfdB to

Tagesschau.de

.

The association has published guidelines that show pool operators in a step-by-step plan how they can react to an increase in energy prices, including delivery bottlenecks or stops.

The recommendations for action range from lowering the water temperature to later opening of heated outdoor areas to the closure of pools - as a logical last step.

If gas supplies from Russia were to stop, the swimming pools could have to close at short notice to save enough gas for the winter.

Should it come to an emergency, this will certainly find acceptance among the bathers

Swimming pools: Berlin shows the way - energy savings of 25 percent

The best example is Berlin: the total cost of heating Berlin's swimming pools is 3.5 million euros a year.

The temperatures are now being turned down in 37 swimming pools.

"Up to 25 percent of energy and several thousand euros should be saved ,

" writes the

Faz.de.

An example that other federal states will surely follow.

Because the alternative to colder swimming pool water would be higher admission prices or, in the worst case, pools would even have to be closed completely.

The nicest thing would certainly be for swimming pool fans that there is a lot of sun shining in the summer.

Because it reliably provides pleasant warmth.
