The idyll between Meta and the American press was short-lived.
The social network is now considering not renewing its agreements made in 2019 (for a period of three years) with a good number of news titles across the Atlantic.
To publish a free version of a selection of articles on its Facebook News tab, the social network remunerated the
Wall Street Journal
(WSJ), the
Washington Post
and the
New York Times
between 10 million and 20 million dollars per year.
While media with more modest audiences received less than 3 million dollars a year, according to the WSJ.
Launched in preview in the United States, Facebook News then arrived in the United Kingdom, Germany and Australia in 2021, then in France in 2022.
