The writer and playwright AB Yehoshua is laid to rest Israel today

The person who designed and led Israeli literature and passed away yesterday at the age of 85, is accompanied on his final journey


The writer and playwright, AB Yehoshua is currently being laid to rest (Wednesday) in the cemetery at Kibbutz Ein HaCarmel.

Joshua, one of the greatest figures in Israeli literature, who designed and led it for an almost inconceivable period, passed away yesterday at the age of 85.

Since beginning to publish his stories in the late 1950s (his first story, "The Death of the Old Man," published in 1957), Joshua has published dozens of books of prose and reference.

His latest book, The Third Temple, was published this year.

His extensive work, which included, in addition to short stories and novels, also essays, articles, plays and children's books, has won him many awards, including the Brenner Prize (1983), the Bialik Prize (1989), the Israel Prize (1995), the EMT Prize ( 2016) and the Dan David Prize (2017), and his works have been adapted into films, TV series, plays and even opera ("Journey to the End of the Millennium"), have aroused immense interest in research and critique over the years, producing many books and articles.

He is survived by three children, Sivan, Gideon and Nahum, and grandchildren.

His wife Rebecca (Ica) passed away in 2016.
