(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, JUN 16 - The Eurogroup approves the entry of Croatia into the euro from January 1, 2023. The Ministers of Finance of the Eurozone, meeting in Luxembourg, agreed with the positive opinions of the EU Commission and the ECB at the beginning of June and considered that Zagreb fulfills all necessary convergence criteria.
"This is a crucial step on Croatia's path to becoming the twentieth member of our euro zone and a strong signal for European integration," commented Eurogroup president Paschal Donohoe.
The final decision by Ecofin is expected on 12 July.
