The south of Europe is already groaning under the extreme heat, now it is also coming to Germany: The German Weather Service (DWD) is expecting the first major heat wave of the year for the weekend.
The peak is expected to be reached on Saturday with temperatures of up to 38 degrees, as announced by the DWD in Offenbach.
The heat is expected to spread from the southwest on Friday.
In the far north, however, there will be no sign of this.
"
On Friday night
you can still ventilate well with lows between 14 and 7 degrees," said DWD meteorologist Marco Manitta.
On Friday, the sun and temperatures of 22 to 28 degrees can usually be expected.
Values of 26 to 30 degrees are reached in the middle and in the south of Germany, and up to 33 degrees in the south-west.
In the night to Saturday the temperatures only drop to 18 degrees in the west and 10 degrees on the lower Danube.
On Saturday
, the meteorologists are expecting maximum values between 30 and 35 degrees, in the southwest even temperatures of up to 38 degrees.
In the late afternoon, isolated strong thunderstorms with heavy rain, large hail and heavy gusts of wind are possible from North Rhine-Westphalia to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The extreme north is spared from the heat.
North of the Emden-Hamburg-Rostock line, the maximum values are only between 17 and 23 degrees.
Showers of rain are also expected there.
In the night of Sunday
, the DWD expects showers between Lower Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, isolated thunderstorms are possible.
The lows are in the middle and in the south at a mild 22 to 15 degrees, in the north at 14 to 9 degrees.
On Sunday, maximum values of up to 37 degrees will be reached in the south and in eastern Saxony, otherwise the maximum temperatures will be between 26 and 34 degrees.
In the southern half, the DWD expects a few strong, sometimes severe thunderstorms.
In the north and northwest it will remain milder with temperatures of a maximum of 19 to 24 degrees.
