Ghislaine Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years after a New York jury found her guilty of luring and manipulating minors into sexually abused by financier Jeffrey Epstein, her ex-boyfriend who committed suicide in his cell while awaiting a trial for the same story.
The prosecution had asked for a sentence between 30 and 55 years, the defense of her a "very under" 20 years, invoking the childhood of the woman traumatized by her father, a former publishing magnate and former British MP.
"It is the greatest regret of my life to have met Jeffrey Epstein": the former British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell said before reading the sentence against him in the Epstein case.
The woman described her ex-boyfriend as a "manipulative, crafty and self-possessed man" who deceived everyone in her orbit, and said she was "sorry" for the pain her victims suffered.
