(ANSA) - BEIJING, 09 JUL - The car with the coffin of the Japanese expremier Shinzo Abe has arrived at the family residence in Tokyo, also reached by the leading personalities of his Liberal Democratic party, including Prime Minister FumioKishida.

Dressed in black, according to the images broadcast by Japanese TV, they lined up to pay homage.

Abe was assassinated yesterday at an election rally in Nara by a 41-year-old man, Tetsuya Yamagami, who used a kind of artisan gun made of wood and iron.

The incident shocked the entire nation, which has one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

Japanese media reported that a wake will be held on Monday evening and a funeral for Abe's family and close associates on Tuesday.

From yesterday evening,

A steady stream of mourners planted flowers and prayers for Abe, Japan's longest-serving post-war prime minister, with grief recorded across the country.
