Who would've believed that?
By definition, the success of shows featuring young singers from the Académie du Festival d'Aix is uncertain, depending a great deal on the quality of the next generation and the ability of a conductor and a director to make them give the best of themselves beyond their inexperience.
But we did not imagine that the most complete happiness of the 2022 Festival would come from Monteverdi's
Coronation of Poppea
at the Théâtre du Jeu de Paume, magnified by a sparkling youthful cast.
The game of bodies
It is true that they are stimulated by two mentors of the very first order.
The conductor Leonardo Garcia Alarcon, who offers them his delicacy for text and sound, the small dozen musicians of the Cappella Mediterranea deploying a continuo as opulent as it is extroverted: these plucked strings which adorn and resonate, this organ which sometimes evokes a harmonium , sometimes an accordion!
