"People will not leave the president's house," said Lahiru Weerasekera, leader of the protest and national organizer of Youth for Change.

Thousands of demonstrators stormed the presidential palace on July 9 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

They demand the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Faced with anger and to ease tensions, Gotabaya Rajapaksa announced that he will leave office on July 13.

Since this announcement, calm has returned to the capital even if the protesters still occupy the presidential residence.

And many locals rush to visit the palace under military surveillance.

The country is hit by an unprecedented economic crisis.

According to the United Nations, 86% of families are eating less or skipping meals to cope with soaring prices and shortages.

For the demonstrators, the leaders are the president and his government: "If they don't leave on the 13th, the people will decide to storm the place where they are currently hiding", threatens the young leader.
