Ozone pollution: speed on Ile-de-France roads limited on Wednesday

Motorists will have to reduce their speed on the main roads by 20 km/h compared to usual speeds in order to limit emissions.

Due to the heat wave, Ile-de-France should experience a new episode of ozone pollution on Wednesday.

The air quality monitoring association Airparif predicts that the information and recommendation threshold set at 180 μg/m³ will be exceeded.

This "secondary" pollutant, which has the sad particularity of being the only one whose concentrations are increasing in Île-de-France, can cause respiratory or cardiac discomfort and irritate the eyes.

In the wake of these exceedance forecasts, the police headquarters issued instructions to be followed to lower these ozone concentrations.

Motorists - invited to postpone unnecessary trips - will thus have to reduce their speed on the main roads by 20 km / h compared to the usual speeds.

Use of public transport recommended

The use of teleworking, carpooling or public transport is also recommended.

Another instruction, heavy goods vehicles of more than 3.5 tonnes, in transit, in Île-de-France will have to bypass the heart of the agglomeration by taking the Ile-de-France ring road.

To avoid a greater concentration of polluting substances, the authorities still ask to avoid the use of solvent-based products (acetone, varnish, glues, paint, etc.), or the practice of polluting activities.

The police headquarters, which ensures that it remains attentive to the evolution of the situation, specifies that “additional measures” could be taken if the situation deteriorates.
