Carlo will be born in October.

Parents found out that he has Down syndrome.

And they decided to carry on with the pregnancy.

"I am happy because an important reality is reopening, and my son will certainly be able to come here", explains the mother, Mariuccia, pregnant in the sixth month, today at the key handover ceremony with the president of the Lazio Region Nicola Zingaretti.

After 22 years of activity, the "Locanda dei Girasoli", then in the Tuscolana area, had closed in January 2022, also due to the effects of the lockdown, the restrictions imposed by Covid and the economic troubles that followed.

Now he is ready to go again.

The reality will be managed by the non-profit Social Consortium "Sintesi" which since 1999 has offered work to many boys and girls with Down syndrome.

25 of them will work here, accompanied by a staff of about ten people, including a psychologist.

The renovations should start in September and at Christmas the real reopening is expected, explains Enzo Rimicci, president of the Locanda and of the Sintesi Consortium.

The new life of the restaurant starts again from the premises in via Taranto dell'Ater, the territorial company for residential construction of the municipality of Rome, seized in Forza Nuova and delivered to the cooperative Consorzio Sintesi by the Lazio Region, following the victory of a tender in 2019.

"We had almost lost hope", Zingaretti says during the ceremony.

"But we are happy with this which is really good news".

Visibly excited Anna receives the keys to the restaurant.

"She has been working here for about 13 years and for her this is her life and her autonomy," says her mother, Gabriella.

La Locanda dei girasoli was born from the initiative of a group of parents of boys and girls with Down syndrome to give them "a future of autonomy and dignity".

The restaurant will have about 150 seats, the rent will be paid from the actual reopening of the activity and will be controlled at 60% by virtue of the announcement.

The assignment will last 6 years plus 6. "We also want to do cultural activities and live music", concludes Rimicci.
