US musician Jack White
had a small, funny appearance as Elvis Presley ,
47, already: In the 2007 parody biopic »Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story«, occasional actor White mumbled amusingly as »King«.
It seemed like a recommendation for something bigger, but in the already more successful film Elvis, which opened in theaters recently, director Baz Luhrmann cast young actor Austin Butler in the title role.
White, who released two solo albums this year and is regarded as the guardian of hand-made rock 'n' roll, was at least allowed to sing in a virtual duet with Elvis for the soundtrack: old and new rock star engage in a singing battle in the blues »Power of My Love ' which White had previously covered.
In an interview with SPIEGEL, the former singer and guitarist of the successful band The White Stripes is in awe: "Man, I loved it
to sing this song!
I mean, to be able to do a duet with Elvis... He's one of the greatest artists we've ever had.” Would he have dared to play Presley not just as a gag but in a leading role?
“I don't know,” says White, who is currently wearing his Elvis quiff in metallic light blue, “I don't think I can pull off the look and feel of one of the most attractive people in the history of rock 'n' roll music would have.
But when I was a little younger, I might have said yes.”
