After a rock concert in the Frankfurt soccer stadium, two people died on Saturday night.
According to the police, they were on the tracks in the vicinity of the stadium in the south-west of the city.
The 45-year-old man and the 25-year-old woman were hit by an S-Bahn, said a spokeswoman for the federal police responsible for the railway.
Blocking of the entire railway line
Even before the fatal accident at around 11:40 p.m., parts of the railway line had been closed because several people had entered the tracks after the concert by the rock band Böhse Onkelz in the stadium, Deutsche Bank Park, the spokeswoman said.
The train driver initiated emergency braking, but was unable to prevent the accident.
After that, the entire railway line was closed to train traffic.
Federal police officers secured the scene of the accident.
The lockdowns were lifted around 2 a.m.
According to the Frankfurt police, there were around 300 passengers on the train who later left the train.
Witnesses to the accident were cared for by the emergency pastoral care.
