Burgwedel - The Rossmann drugstore chain is recalling its "enerBIO tortilla chips paprika and sea salt" with all best-before dates.
As the company reports, increased levels of tropane alkaloids have been detected.
These are the items shown with the EAN 4305615678559 and EAN 4305615678641.
Tropane alkaloids can cause drowsiness, headaches, and nausea, and can affect the central nervous system.
But how can something like this get into the food?
Tropane alkaloids are considered natural ingredients of certain field herbs, such as deadly nightshade.
When harvesting, they can accidentally be harvested and thus contaminate the food.
Tortilla chips recall: item withdrawn from sale
According to Rossmann, the two items have already been withdrawn from sale.
Consumers can return the product and get their money back.
Rossmann apologizes for the inconvenience.
