Emergency services in Switzerland managed to salvage a car from Lake Lucerne.

The car was there at a depth of 182 meters.

One fatality was found in the wrecked vehicle, police said.

The body is now being transferred to the Institute for Forensic Medicine at the University of Zurich.

There, the coroner should clarify the identity and cause of death of the person.

In the accident on Sunday, the car struck a rock face, then spun across the oncoming lane and finally broke through a railing.

The car fell 45 meters and then sank to the bottom of the lake.

Locating the car was extremely difficult due to the great depth of the water at the scene of the accident.

The forces of the canton police in Zurich and Schwyz had to hire a private company to salvage the car.

At midday, the vehicle was moved from the depths towards the surface of the water and pulled out of the water at a place that was not visible.

The law enforcement authorities assume that the fatality in the passenger car was alone in the vehicle at the time of the traffic accident.
