Pop singer Shawn Mendes has canceled his tour due to mental health issues.
"As you know, I've had to postpone the shows for the past few weeks," wrote the musician ("Treat You Better") on Twitter and Instagram.
He was not prepared for the costs that the tour would entail for him.
The 23-year-old was excited to be able to play again after a long break due to the pandemic.
"But the reality is that I wasn't prepared at all for how difficult touring would be after that time."
Mendes emphasized that he would come back – but at the moment his health is the top priority.
Mendes' planned performances in summer 2023 in Munich, Mannheim, Cologne, Berlin and Hamburg are also affected by the cancellations on the "Wonder" world tour.
Pandemic further exacerbated problems
Already at the beginning of July, Mendes pointed out mental problems during his concert tours.
"I've been touring since I was 15 and to be honest it's always been difficult for me to be away from friends and family," he wrote in a post on Instagram.
He not only speaks openly to journalists about his fears, he also addresses them in his own songs such as "In My Blood".
According to the company, these feelings have intensified during the pandemic.
After splitting from his girlfriend Karla Camila Cabello earlier this year, Mendes said he didn't know who to call if he had another panic attack.
Shortly before, Cabello had announced that the two had gone into couples therapy.
Together they delivered the summer hit of 2019 with »Señorita«.
Mendes has released four albums since 2015.
All hit number one on the charts in both the US and Canada, his home country.
He is also very successful in Europe.
