(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 28 - Bentu by Salvatore Mereu, a tale from the bond between a grandfather and a grandson in Sardinia in the 1950s, is the only Italian director competing in the ten-title competition at the 19th edition of Giornate degli Autori , the independent and autonomous section of the Venice International Film Festival (31 August - 10 September), promoted by ANAC and 100autori.
Among the protagonists of the competition (president of the jury Celine Sciamma) there is also Abel Ferraracon Padre Pio, dedicated to the saint, played by Shia Labeouf.
"It may seem a bit crazy to put Ferrara in competition with many new and emerging authors, but this is a slightly punk film and we are a bit punk - says the artistic director GaiaFurrer -. It is both the portrait of Father's torments. Pio is the story of a historical event. The massacre that took place in San Giovanni Rotondo in 1920 ".
The opening event out of competition is the documentary Marcia suRoma by Mark Cousins.
Among the guests at the days also Edgarreitz to whom the special prize for the 75 years of the Entamenta show will go;
Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), interpreter of the courts of Miu Miu Women's Tales, Worlds Apart of Ceciliaminiuchi;
Steve Buscemi, Tessa Thompson, director and protagonist respectively, in the role of an operator of a friend phone, for The Listener, out-of-competition closing film and Stefania Sandrelli, interpreter with Silvia D'Amico of the road movie Acqua e anice, presented among the special events.
