An electronic billboard at a Wuppertal suspension railway station was manipulated in such a way that pornographic content was displayed there for a while over the weekend.
On Sunday afternoon there were several corresponding references to the alleged hacker attack on social networks, said the Wuppertaler Stadtwerke (WSW) as the owner of the billboards on Monday.
"After checking, this turned out to be correct, after which the corresponding screen was taken out of service."
Experts from the municipal utility should now look for the causes of the unauthorized access together with the external service company that operates the system.
Until the facts are clarified, the advertising system will remain out of order, it said.
Normally, advertisements or information for the passengers flicker on the screens, which are about two meters high and one meter wide.
