Growing cucumbers: watering properly against pests

Thanks to vitamins, minerals and a high water content, cucumbers are very healthy.
But you should water the plant properly.
Cucumbers are full of water, they also have a detoxifying and purifying effect.
The specimens available in the supermarket were often imported from far away and are also often contaminated with pesticides.
But growing your own vegetables in the garden has its pitfalls.
Correct watering needs to be learned.

Cucumbers are heat-loving plants.

Cucumbers need a lot of attention: They don't like frost and temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius, need a climbing aid to grow and have to be watered a lot.
But the latter task depends on the right watering:
Similar to basil or tomatoes, you should never water cucumbers from above.
If you do this, water collects in the leaves and they can mold more easily.
Also with this method too little water reaches the roots.

, you should also water early in the day so that the plant has time to use up the water again at night.
More resistant varieties such as Diamant, Excelsior, Libelle, Schubert or Zirkon contract the harmful fungus less often.
This makes it easy for pests and fungi.

reports, pickling and snake cucumbers are particularly susceptible to powdery mildew, which is promoted by incorrect watering from above and high humidity.
Once sown, cucumbers are among the fast-growing vegetables and only need eight weeks from sowing to harvest.

If you want to try a slightly different cucumber, you should reach for the Cucamelon, which only grows a few centimeters.
Paradoxically, the Mexican cucumber needs enough space due to its many tendrils and is therefore only conditionally suitable for cultivation in a bucket.
