Just one day after they reopened after a two-year Corona break, many schools in the Philippines were closed again.
The reason for this measure imposed by the authorities on the main island of Luzon was tropical storm Ma-on on Tuesday, which is accompanied by torrential rain and extremely strong winds.
According to the state weather agency, wind speeds of up to 185 kilometers per hour were measured on the north-east coast of Luzon.
In the capital, Manila, Ma-on amplified the effects of the current monsoon, and some streets were knee-deep in water.
Two people were injured by falling trees in Cagayan province.
In many places, the rivers rose significantly.
For millions of children in the Philippines, the new school year began on Monday - and for many of them, face-to-face classes were back for the first time after more than two years of interruption due to the corona pandemic.
